Posted on Thursday, August 13th
If mailing live cats, brick buildings, slaves or children or harassing entire towns by mailing thousands of letters to the locals was not enough, here are a few other equally strange mail ideas for your entertainment.
6. Mailing drones
They say "Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it." A college student was fortunate enough to get what he wanted and more. He placed an order for a weightlifting bench, but when the delivery came, he got two boxes instead of one, the additional one containing something much more valuable than his fitness equipment. It was a drone. The student decided to take photographs and uploaded them on Reddit only to find out that he had been sent a non-military drone belonging to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The sender remains unknown up to this day.
7. Mailing bricks (not for buildings, but as a form of protest)
Mailing bricks may not seem so original anymore in the present context, but this time there is a different motivation behind it. The concept of mailing bricks was first encountered in Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book" back in the 1970s, but was then used in real life as a form of protest. Bricks were sent to junk mailers or banks as a method of protest against "postage guaranteed" postcards and envelopes being required regardless of the items to be delivered. Moreover, the postage expenses were to be borne by the issuer. Today, this risk of using such labels improperly no longer exists. However, it should be noted that this practice is still legal in some places, such as the United Kingdom.
8. Mailing skis, teeth or smelly fish
As expected, there is always someone eager to test the limits of various laws and regulations applicable to one domain or another and that of postal services makes no exception. Back in 2000, a group of scientists tried to have twenty-eight different items, among which a human tooth, a smelly fish, a ski and a coconut, delivered after labelling them in various unconventional ways. And eighteen of them were.
9. Mailing using "The World's Smallest Postal Service"
This mail idea is rather cute. And it is also legal. You most probably have not heard of this service, but there is such a thing as "The World's Smallest Postal Service". It is provided by Leafcutter and operates with hand-made letters, invitations and packages of small dimensions which are subsequently delivered worldwide using standard mail services (and standard casing).
10. Mailing bees, scorpions or chickens
Mailing cats or children may not be legal anymore, but there is still a selection of live animals you can mail to anywhere in the world you may want. This selection includes live scorpions, bees, chickens, animals that do not exceed 50 cm in size and also fish.
And why not? In the end, people have crazy ideas all the time. Who knows what other equally strange mail ideas people may come up with in the future"¦ So, be careful!
